Family business · Website & configurator
A maker of staff gauges: a new website and a configurator that makes inquiries complete.
The Mühlbacher family business; Solum has advised its management since December 2025. Website and configurator are built; the launch follows the owner’s sign-off on the content.
europegel makes staff gauges, the scales on which water levels are read at rivers, lakes and reservoirs. Each gauge is defined by its form, measuring range, width, colours, numbering and mounting; the possible combinations run into the hundreds.
Until now every inquiry went through phone and email: clarify the specification, look up the price, write a quote. The old website showed the range but did not help anyone choose. Customer, document and email data from many years sat scattered across files and mailboxes.
A clean inquiry instead of a shopping cart.
A web shop was deliberately not the goal. Most customers are public authorities, water associations and utilities that buy via quote, purchase order and invoice, and many versions are custom-made at an indicative price. So the configurator ends in a complete inquiry, not a payment.
We built in short steps with visible progress: the first complete version of the website stood after three and a half weeks, followed by the configurator, the data foundation and safeguards for operation.
A five-step configurator
Form, measuring range, width and colours with scale, mounting, summary. The result is exactly one manufacturable version with an indicative price; combinations that cannot be made are ruled out by the selection itself.
An inquiry you can work with
The customer gets a confirmation in their language, sales gets a PDF with the parts list and price. The price is recalculated on the server rather than taken from the browser.
Three languages, findable
Every page in German, English and Italian, delivered to search engines as finished HTML, with structured data and redirects from the old site’s addresses.
Reference map
A map of measuring stations where the gauges are in use: evidence that authorities and associations can check for themselves.
One data foundation
Customer, document and email data from many years merged into one database; around 80% of old emails were matched to the right customer automatically (as of March 2026). Configurator inquiries land in the same database.
Safe operation
A single switch for going live, checks before every deploy, and a permission model in which visitors can only read what is meant to be public.
- Designed so that standard inquiries arrive complete: specification and indicative price are settled before anyone picks up the phone.
- The parts list in the PDF gives production a basis nobody has to retype.
- Three languages are in place, for inquiries from beyond Austria and Germany as well.
- The merged data shows who ordered what and when: a basis for approaching existing customers deliberately.
- Measurement starts at launch, with inquiries per page and source, so the benefit can later be shown in numbers rather than just described.
The most important decision was against a feature: no shop. If you sell to authorities and associations, you need a clean inquiry, not a shopping cart. And technology and content run at their own pace: what can be built is built; what goes public is the business’s call.
Manufacturers with many product variants whose customers buy via quote and invoice.
