The Situation

A highly specialized product portfolio was sold almost exclusively over phone and email. Even the simplest standard order meant: take the inquiry, clarify the variant, look up the price, write a quote, follow up.

This manual effort blocked the entire sales team. The people who should have been solving complex special cases spent their days on standard goods that ought to run by themselves.

The Approach

The question wasn’t “how do we build a webshop” but “how does the customer reach the right variant without asking back”. The answer: a guided path that mirrors the logic of the products — step by step, with automatic pricing at the end.

We structured the 690+ standard variants so that a consultation-heavy selection becomes a few clear decisions.

What We Built
  1. A guided 5-step configurator

    The customer clicks through clearly bounded decisions — at the end there is exactly one orderable variant, no room for interpretation.

  2. Automatic price calculation

    The price follows from the configuration, not from a price list in someone’s head. No lookup, no transcription error.

  3. Direct cart integration

    The finished configuration moves into the order process without a media break — “inquiry” becomes “order”.

Learnings
